BPA NEWS:

Join the launch of the new QB3 Entrepreneurs' Discussion Series!

This monthly luncheon seminar series will explore issues and opportunities for moving bioscience innovations to market. Each month, entrepreneurs or industry experts will be invited to discuss various technical issues associated with starting a university spin-out (IP, funding, company formation, team building, etc.). Speakers will also be encouraged to hold "office hours" at which you can schedule short private meetings. The QED series will be a great opportunity to network with entrepreneurs, service providers, and venture capitalists.

The first speaker is Michelle Khine - an expert at moving a technology from the university to successful start-up. Immediately after completing her PhD with Dr. Luke Lee, she launched Fluxion Biosciences, the first start-up in QB3's incubator - the QB3 Garage. After only two years in the Garage, Fluxion closed a $6.8 MM Series A financing round. By then Michelle had started a faculty position at UC Merced, but now she is back at it again, launching her second start-up: Shrink Technologies.

SPEAKER: Michelle Khine, PhD, Assistant Professor School of Engineering UC Merced

TOPIC: Catalyzing the transition from project to product

DATE: Friday, August 15, 2008

TIME: 12:00 - 1:00 pm

PLACE: Stanley Hall 621 UC Berkeley

Lunches are free, but space is quite limited, so please register here.

Minimum Salary Increase

Did you know that the University of California is on a 3 year plan to raise the minimum salary for postdocs to NIH recommended levels?  It started in October 2007, raising the minimum postdoc salary at UC Berkeley to $34,752.  For more info, see this memo: http://www.ucop.edu/acadadv/acadpers/tab0708/letter.pdf  We will keep you apprised of any further developments or announcements in this regard as we learn of them.
